About
Sonic Acts Press publishes at the intersection of technology, theory, and ecology. Our books, magazines, and music offer compelling academic and artistic perspectives, merging interdisciplinary research with experimental narratives. Providing a space for critical reflection and wonder, the Press fosters radical new visions, examining politics – past, present, and speculative futures.

Our History
Originally founded in 2001 to publish collections of essays by artists and theorists presenting at the Sonic Acts Festival – now the Sonic Acts Biennial – the Press has since expanded significantly in size and output. It currently explores a range of formats, from readers, e-books, and vinyl to artist books and Ecoes – a periodic magazine focusing on ‘art in the age of pollution’.
While intermittent editions of Ecoes continue to serve as accompanying readers for the Biennial, and the Press’s output resonates strongly with Sonic Acts’ wide-ranging programming, projects, and commissions, its focus also extends beyond this remit. Responding to emerging trends in the cultural landscape, Sonic Acts Press seeks out new horizons, reimagining what publishing can be both on and off the page.
Sonic Acts Biennial & Other Projects
Established in 1994, Sonic Acts has gained prominence with its biennial international festival – an intensive art, theory and technology gathering motivated by the changes in the ecological, political, technological and social landscape. The Amsterdam-based interdisciplinary arts organisation is also known for large-scale initiatives such as Re-Imagine Europe, commissioning and presentation platform launched by Sonic Acts in collaboration with ten fellow cultural institutions; Dark Ecology, a three-year art, research, and commissioning project in the Arctic region; Vertical Cinema, a globally touring film programme. Building on its rich legacy of innovative projects, Sonic Acts continues to launch new residencies and collaborations, hosting events, performances, and more.
